Biden May Change Presidential Military Powers

US President Joe Biden believes there is a need to update the policy of using US military force overseas, his spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

According to Psaki, the president believes that “the time has come to renew the” authority “for the use of military force,” which has “been in existence for 20 years.”

As stated by Psaki, Biden is “open to talking about exactly what the scope and scope” of his mandate should look like. So far, the relevant “discussions” with members of the US Congress are mostly “in a private format”.

Commenting on the recent strikes in Syria, Psaki said that “a full review and process has been carried out from the point of view of the law.” The White House “is confident in the legal powers for this strike,” TASS reports.

The US Constitution gives Congress, not the President, the authority to declare war. Later, however, a number of legislative acts were passed, according to which the President himself can use military force abroad, by notifying Congress.
