Excavations in ancient city of Irakli are underway in Turkish mugl

In the Milas area of ​​the Turkish province of Mugla, excavations in the ancient city of Irakli continue. The work is mostly concentrated in the Hama of Athens.

Lecturer of the Faculty of Archaeological Faculty of Selchuk, Zelikhuk, Gider Buyukezer, told Anadol that traces of the first human life in geography, where Irakli is located, go back to the sixth millennium BC.

Buyukeser noted that excavations in the temple dedicated to the goddess Athena are currently underway. The temple is one of the most important structures of the city and was built on a rocky area at the highest point of the city in the 3rd century BC.

She noted that the building was built from local Gneis, but there is a marble composition on the facade, which is typical for many structures in Iraklia.

Athena’s temple, according to her, is also considered the city archive.

“This year we found several inscriptions on marble wall blocks. We think that here we will be able to get answers to many questions. On the marble blocks at the northern and southern walls of the temple, letters are written to the Council and the inhabitants of Irakli,” said Buyukezer.
