Armenian President is required to tell about British citizenship

President Armen Sarkissian must answer the questions whether he retains British citizenship and whether he has combined diplomatic service with private business. Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates of Armenia Ara Zohrabyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.

According to Zohrabyan, he sent a request to the British company Background Report on the citizenship and biographical data of Armen Sargsyan, writes Sputnik Armenia.

In particular, from May 30, 2002 to June 9, 2015, Sargsyan was the director of Eurasia House International, while from 2013 to 2018 he was in the diplomatic service. So, in 2013-2015 he was in the diplomatic service of Armenia (ambassador to Great Britain), while remaining the director of a private company.

The lawyer notes that the president did not indicate this fact in his biography, although the diplomat has no right to engage in private business.

As for the citizenship of Armenia, according to part 2 of Article 124 of the Constitution, a person over 40 years old who has been a citizen of Armenia for the last six years and has permanently resided in the country, and also speaks Armenian, can be elected President of Armenia. Ara Zohrabyan’s inquiry was answered that Sargsyan was a British citizen in 2003-2012.
