Minister of Energy on ADF: “At moment, balance between all three aspects of energy trilemma is violated

Energy Minister Parviz Shakhbazov spoke in panel discussions on the topic “Chaos of Energy Safety” in the framework of Anatoly Diplomatic Forum (ADF). The Minister noted that Azerbaijan together with Turkey implements all energy security projects, and that energy cooperation between the two countries and the growth of gas supplies for the South Gas Corridor are among the priorities discussed during the recent visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Turkey.

Energy Minister shared his views on the current situation in the energy markets, the growing role of natural gas in sustainable power supply and energy policy of Azerbaijan, based on the diversity of energy resources. He noted the current impairment of the balance between all three aspects of the energy trilemma – safety, accessibility and environmental sustainability: “On the one hand, an energy crisis caused by the energy transition, on the other hand, continued political tension made energy markets extremely unstable and volatile. This problem is caused by the conducted Recently, the energy policy of market participants, unfair approaches to energy resources, and exacerbated by current political processes. “

The Minister stated that he sees the strengthening of the country’s energy security in the development of renewable energy along with natural gas and reported the upcoming purposes and plans for both directions. He noted that the Southern Gas Corridor has established itself as a successful project, uninterruptedly providing consumers affordable gas: “9.7 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to Europe from the moment of commissioning of the transadriatic gas pipeline (TAG). This year we will increase gas exports to Turkey up to 8.2 billion cubic meters, and to Europe – up to 9.1 billion cubic meters.

Energy Minister added that the uniqueness of the Southern Gas Corridor allows you to diversify both sources of supply and new consumption directions. Huge gas reserves in Azerbaijan, the existing infrastructure and the interest of different countries in Azerbaijani gas led to the need to expand the corridor. It’s time to start working in this direction, “said the Minister.
