In Estonia, they will ban citizens of Russia and Belarus to own weapons

Citizens of Belarus and Russia living in Estonia will lose the right to own weapons. This is provided for by the new coalition agreement between the reform party, the Fatherland and the Social Democratic Party, which was signed today. It is expected that the coalition agreement will approve the parliament, after which the mandate will be given to the Prime Minister Kae Callas to the Prime Minister Kauster to the formation of a new government.

“Licenses for the possession of weapons issued to citizens of Russia and Belarus will be declared invalid,” the coalition agreement says.

According to the future Minister of the Interior Lauri Laurinemets, the corresponding law can be adopted by the end of this year.

Laaenemethta told ERR to the ERR that weapons owners should be canolate not only among the Russian citizens and Belarus: “This is a question directly related to state security. However, it concerns not only citizens of those countries that, let’s say, are not too friendly to Estonia. The police need to carry out a larger verification. After all, I am sure that among us there are Estonian citizens who are unfriendly against Estonia and Ukraine. Whose thoughts and ideas in the context of an aggravated situation can pose threats. They should also be engaged. Changing the law will take several months. During the summer we have to prepare many bills that will be submitted to Riigikoga in the fall. That is, the law can be adopted by the end of the year. “
